Discussion Week 3: Personality Disorders

A research paper is due according to the schedule in the module.
This assignment is to guide the adult learner to appropriate sources of information in the topic of Abnormal Psychology. In order to carry this out it will take an opportunity to research and write a paper covering the framework of a specific psychological disorder. The student will be free to choose from the disorders mentioned in the text or from the listing in the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-IV TR. The research paper is due on the final night (10
th) of the module.

Reason for Selection of this Psychological Disorder
Summary of Current Research of the Disorder
Application of research to the type of psychological disorder (Main Body of Paper)
Application to Christian Principles

 Cite four major sources (Wikipedia does not count as a major source), which can include scholarly research journals and the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-IV TR.
 Cover page
 12-font type in Times New Roman font
 Abstract
 Reference page
 1″ margins
The total paper should no less than
5 pages. Include a cover page, as well as an abstract, which will provide an overview of the paper. For username and password you will need to contact the resource center student help desk.
Suggested research topics include:

Panic and Anxiety Disorders
 Mood Disorders

 Dissociative Disorders
 Eating Disorders
Rev. 2.12 CJT

Personality Disorders
 Sexual Dysfunctions
 Schizophrenia
 Psychotic Disorders
Students are required to utilize at least three
(3) professional references within their project. Projects may be written in first person, since it is an account of them being the “counselor” or “therapist”. Although the project may be written in first person, professional resources must be cited in APA style, such as the textbook, scholarly journals, or internet resources. Turn in your paper using the newest version of the APA style manual

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.

Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument
